Scandlight 2026 brought together lighting designers, artists, researchers, educators, technical specialists and industry representatives from around the world. These were the speakers and contributors who participated in the conference programme.

  • Adam Mendelson

    Associate Teaching Professor and Associate Chair, UMBC Department of Theatre

    Adam Mendelson teaches lighting, sound and digital media design at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He is also Vice-Chair of OISTAT’s Lighting Design Sub-Commission and has designed lighting and sound for theatre and dance productions in the United States and internationally.

  • Amy Chan

    Light and Theatre Artist

    Amy Chan is a Hong Kong-based artist whose practice explores the musicality, relationality and materiality of light. Her artistic research has been presented through performances, international conferences and peer-reviewed publications.

  • Bastiaan Schoof

    Light Artist and Educator

    Bastiaan Schoof creates light art for public spaces and teaches lighting design at the University of the Arts in Amsterdam. He has worked as a technical and artistic adviser for Amsterdam Light Festival and is involved in research concerning lighting design archives and heritage.

  • Bastian A. Miranda

    Lighting Designer and Scenographer

    Bastian A. Miranda is a Montreal-based lighting designer, scenographer, playwright and director. His interdisciplinary work explores light, atmosphere and suspension as dramaturgical forces within collaborative performance-making.

  • Caroline Mathieu

    Designer

    Caroline Mathieu works across lighting design, scenography, performance and artistic research. Her doctoral project LUMINAL investigated the physiological and perceptual effects of coloured light through immersive installations.

  • Chris Van Goethem

    Consultant and Educator

    Chris Van Goethem began his career as a theatre technician and stage manager before moving into consultancy and education. His work focuses on technical theatre practice, professional knowledge and the preservation of stage technology heritage.

  • Clifton Taylor

    Lighting Designer and Author

    Clifton Taylor has designed lighting for Broadway, opera, theatre and ballet companies around the world. He is an author, international lecturer and co-founder of Studio School of Design in New York.

  • Declan Randall

    Training and Outreach Specialist, ETC

    Declan Randall is a former set, lighting and projection designer whose work has appeared on stages around the world. At ETC, he manages training across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, with a particular interest in LED technology and colour science.

  • Emma Weil

    Head of Light, Sound and Video, Royal Swedish Opera

    Emma Weil has worked across opera, ballet, theatre, live music, international touring, museums and major events since 1994. Her work increasingly focuses on leadership, organisational development and sustainable working practices within the performing arts.

  • Eric Holmberg

    Visual Technologist and Designer

    Eric Holmberg works with advanced visual technology for opera, theatre, concerts and large-scale productions. His expertise includes media servers, projection mapping, tracking, real-time graphics and extended reality technologies.

  • Isabel Potter

    Researcher and Production Manager

    Isabel Potter researches the relationship between technology, scenography and accessibility at Bath Spa University. Their work combines performance practice, production management and an engineering background to explore more inclusive approaches to lighting design.

  • Jesper Kongshaug

    Lighting Designer

    Jesper Kongshaug is an award-winning lighting designer working across performing arts, light art, architecture and lighting technology. His work combines visual precision with experimental approaches to colour, space and storytelling.

  • Jodi Rabinowitz

    Experimental Lighting, Video and Scenographic Designer

    Jodi Rabinowitz works across theatre, live performance, immersive projects, film and television. Their integrated design practice combines lighting, video and scenography with a focus on adaptable and resourceful creative processes.

  • Kelli Zezulka

    Lecturer and Lighting Designer

    Dr Kelli Zezulka teaches technical theatre and stage production at the universities of Salford and Leeds. Her research and creative practice connect lighting design, aerial performance, scenography and education.

  • Lara Szabo Greisman

    Co-founder, Nobel Week Lights

    Lara Szabo Greisman works to connect audiences with art and culture in public space. She co-founded Nobel Week Lights, a Stockholm light festival whose artworks are inspired by discoveries and achievements associated with the Nobel Prize.

  • Linn Persson

    Lighting Designer, Östgötateatern

    Linn Persson works as an in-house lighting designer at Östgötateatern in Sweden. Her practice offers insight into the artistic, technical and collaborative responsibilities of working permanently within a theatre organisation.

  • Linnea Ljungmark

    Managing Director, Entrepreneur and WIL Entertainment Ambassador

    Linnea Ljungmark has more than 20 years of experience in entertainment lighting sales and distribution. She founded the Swedish lighting company Topstage and initiated the entertainment branch of Women in Lighting.

  • Lotta Hammarstrand

    Lighting Designer

    Lotta Hammarstrand is a lighting designer with extensive experience across theatre, opera and television. Her work includes opera productions, broadcast entertainment and adaptations of theatrical lighting for television recording.

  • Ludwig Lepage

    Product Manager, Robert Juliat

    Ludwig Lepage joined Robert Juliat’s research and development department in 2004 and has served as product manager since 2007. He works between customers and the company’s technical departments and contributes to European entertainment ecodesign initiatives.

  • Mattias Fransson

    Lighting Designer

    Mattias Fransson has more than 30 years of experience in lighting design and technical coordination for stage, events, touring productions and museums. His interests extend from the physics of light to its psychological and perceptual effects.

  • Michael Breiner

    Lighting Designer and Educator

    Michael Breiner is a Danish lighting designer working in theatre, dance, opera and contemporary performance. He has taught lighting design since 2004, and his artistic research examines darkness in relation to mind, time and space.

  • Michael Ramsaur

    Professor of Lighting Design

    Michael Ramsaur is a lighting designer, educator and Professor Emeritus at Stanford University. His long international career includes more than 200 productions, teaching and workshops in numerous countries, and extensive work with OISTAT and USITT.

  • Natalie Cheung

    Dramaturg for Transmedia Productions

    Natalie Cheung works as a dramaturg on transmedia productions that frequently engage with light. She also curates programmes, writes critical guides and creates dialogue between artists, creative teams and audiences.

  • Nick Hunt

    Senior Research Fellow

    Nick Hunt is a former professional lighting designer and technician who later became an educator and researcher at Rose Bruford College. His research examines light, photography, scenography, digital performance and the history of theatre technologies.

  • Nick Moran

    Freelance Lighting Designer, Production Electrician and Trainer

    Nick Moran has more than 30 years of experience in opera, musicals, theatre, concert touring and large-scale events. He formerly led lighting programmes at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and is the author of several books on performance lighting.

  • Raisa Kilpeläinen

    Lighting Designer, Scenographer and Educator

    Raisa Kilpeläinen is a Finnish performance designer and lecturer at the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki. Her research and teaching address sustainability, dramaturgy, site-specific work, light art and future approaches to performance design.

  • Scott Palmer

    Professor of Light and Performance

    Scott Palmer is Professor of Light and Performance at the University of Leeds. His research, publications and creative practice explore light, darkness and atmosphere as active materials in performance, scenography and public installations.

  • Tommy Wong

    Lighting Designer and Educator

    Tommy Wong is a lighting mentor and designer at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore. He has designed numerous dance and theatre productions across Asia and has conducted lighting workshops at major performing arts institutions in China and Hong Kong.

  • Veli-Ville Sivén

    Scenographer and Media Artist

    Veli-Ville Sivén is a Helsinki-based scenographer, lighting designer, media artist and musician. His work explores how light, physical scenography and moving images can form unified and immersive spatial environments.

  • Véronique Perruchon

    Professor of Performing Arts

    Véronique Perruchon is Professor of Performing Arts at the University of Lille and leads interdisciplinary research on performance lighting. Her work examines LED technology, natural light, ecological questions and the relationship between theatrical light and perception.
